ARTSPLASH! 2009
plus InkSplash – Print Show
and Special Events!

September 12 – October 11, 2009
Reception: Sunday August 13, 1-3pm

sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 galleries

Bringing the arts into full Fall flower, the Rockaway Artists Alliance presents ARTSplash 2009, its largest exhibition of the year. Combining sculpture, photography, painting, poetry, quilt, drawing, watercolor, mixed media and more, the exhibition spreads over two galleries, the RAA's sTudio 6 and sTudio 7 located at Fort Tilden in the Rockaways, and showcases the work of some forty-two artists.

Woven throughout ARTSplash 2009 and representing the literary and performing arts will be dance performances, music, theatre and an RAA writers group event. Also a special preview of an upcoming 2010 exhibition, InkSplash will highlight the work of ten additional printmaking artists. Both shows will celebrate their opening reception on Sunday September 13 from 1-3pm. Many of the artists, as well as lively music, refreshments and good company, will be on hand. Both InkSplash and ARTSplash will run from Saturday September 12 to Sunday October 11. Admission to both shows, as well as all events and parking, is free.

ARTSplash offers an artist's palette full of color and mood and brings the expression of art to life. Ranging from the 8 foot high assemblage "Tornado Tree" by Geoff Rawling to photographer Marvin Schwartz 8x10 "Song- New Orleans" and from Renee Radenberg's metal and glass "Faith, Peace, Love Mobiles" to "Air Guitar", a performance piece to completed during the show by artist Chris Preston, it explores a wide range of perspectives, themes, techniques and styles. ARTSplash invites gallerygoers to step inside and experience the world as seen through the eyes of a wide range of very different artists. "What's marvelous is it's a very large show, but every piece is unique and individual," said an RAA spokesman.

Concurrently, InkSplash presents "the tradition of printmaking in a changing time," says artist and curator Christian Legar. "This will be a preview show for a larger (showcase) next year. (We're) presenting international masters, printmakers from the Robert Blackburn studio and Manhattan Graphic studio, two of the most important New York studios. (And) InkSplash coincides with Print Week and the Print Show hosted by the International Fine Print Dealers Association."

Notable works on display will be ''Rockland Harbor'' by Richard Lubell, ''Pajaro y Luna'' by Luanda Lozano, "Restaurant Row'' by Christian Le Gars.

Both shows will be enlivened throughout by an infusion of performing arts energy. On Saturday October 3 Mari Meade Montoya, along with fellow dancers Breanna Gribble and Amanda Hinchley, will be performing as part of the exhibition. Sunday October 4 will see the RAA writers group presenting a lively program of original plays, poetry, prose reading and music from the sTuido 7 stage starting at 1:30pm. The final two Sundays in September will feature a return of the multi-talented acting troupe Dzciezci, performing "Circus Luna", and also an ensemble interactive opera group, both in T-7.

Like its predecessors, which have attracted hundreds to their opening receptions, ARTSplash 2009 promises an exhibition filled with color, sight, sound, and imagination. Along with InkSplash and the vibrant planned and unplanned performance events, this Rockaway Artists Alliance show certainly also promises to be a one of a kind art experience.

Whether discovering this vibrant artists group for the first time or coming back to be intrigued by an ever changing array of exhibitions, the RAA extends an invitation to all to come and be immersed in the arts. As they say, "This is a show filled with talent, and images you won't soon forget."

Gallery hours are Saturday 12-4p.m., Sunday 1-4 p.m. and by appointment. Gallery admission and all events are free, as is parking. For further information on exhibitions, events, meetings and directions please call (718) 474-0861, e-mail rockart116@aol.com.
